Grand Rapids Matu Christian Church

The GR Matu Christian Church shares our building and our love for Christ.  UNCHR, the United Nations Refugee Agency says “1 in every 110 people globally is either an asylum-seeker, internally displaced or a refugee”. The Matu people of Myanmar (Burma) have been arriving in the US since about 1998, having been persecuted as Christians in their native land.

We’re happy to share our building and 10 acre property with these wonderful families who have emigrated from Burma.  They have happily shared their horticultural skills to improve the Dutton Community Garden and Redeemer’s flower beds.

In October 2018 we began English Conversation classes with members of the Matu congregation. We meet on Saturday mornings to practice literacy and speaking skills.

The Matu congregation gathers on Saturday mornings, Saturday evenings, and Sunday afternoons. Join them for lively singing and worship on Sundays at 1:30 pm.

Plaster Creek Stewards and National Wildlife Federation

RCC is partnering with Calvin College’s interdisciplinary PCS and with the NWF Sacred Grounds program to restore the health and beauty of the Plaster Creek watershed in which RCC is located. Our involvement includes learning about the environment, planting native plants, and building rain gardens. You can learn about this wonderful effort here.

EaRN (Employment and Resource Network)

EaRN, with its Work Search Roundtable and Network2New Work events and one-on-one coaching, help people find meaningful work. Individuals changing careers, in search of a new job or seeking help discovering their calling are welcome to contact Ken Soper, EaRN founder and Redeemer congregant, who has mentored people into lives of meaning and significance for over three decades.

Dutton Food PantryThe Dutton Food Panty is a place where volunteers from many churches and organizations come together to provide food and friendship to persons and families in need. With their recent growth, the pantry relocated to “downtown” Dutton. For hours, service area, or to volunteer, click on link below.

Dutton Days

RCC and its members have served on our annual community day in various ways, by flipping thousands of pancakes and serving on the planning committee.  In 2018 we participated in the parade along with the Matu Christian Church and hosted a booth.
